House Isolation/Quarantine Policies: Fall 2022

Dear students,

While we are hopeful that we are beyond the most disruptive period of the pandemic, we have specific COVID-19 isolation and quarantine housing policies for the upcoming school year to help our community respond to surges of the virus.

This academic year, residents of UC Berkeley campus housing who are in need of isolation or quarantine will be housed in nearby off-campus spaces (which could include hotels). We will provide those residents with transportation to and from the space, meals, and other basic needs at no extra cost to the student. (Please note that this policy does not apply to those living  in graduate student apartments or University Village family student housing, who may isolate or quarantine in their apartment.) In the event that we exceed the capacity of available local partners, we may also need to require students to isolate-in-place. In other words, a student may be instructed to stay in their residence hall or apartment room. In such an event, we may move potentially at-risk roommate(s) to another location.

This policy differs from our policy during the 2021-22 school year, when UC Berkeley operated a dedicated isolation or quarantine housing area. With our campus-wide vaccination policy and evolving public health situation, we are using all residence hall rooms for student housing and are using off campus locations for isolation/quarantine.
