Finally, as a reminder, theft of laptops, computers, and mobile devices, etc., is known to increase when there are fewer people around, and this presents a serious risk to Berkeley information and privacy. Such theft can cause untold hardships to students, employees, and partners, as well as millions of dollars of damage. Please take the following steps to protect both university information, as well as your own.

  • Secure your mobile devices to your desk using cables while they are in use and lock them in secure cabinets/drawers and offices when not in use.
  • Always lock your computer screen, even if you are stepping away for only a moment.
  • To report a concern about security or to request assistance with these actions, please contact: itcshelp@berkeley.edu

I hope you have a safe and happy winter break, and I look forward to seeing you in the new year.

Sincerely,
Stephen C. Sutton, Ed.D. (he/him/his)
Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs
