Sent on behalf of the Vice Chancellors for Student Affairs and Equity and Inclusion
Dear student leaders –
Passover (April 12-20) is quickly approaching, and we want to extend our support to students who celebrate this important holiday as part of their Jewish faith.
As an officer of a Jewish-affiliated student organization, we appreciate your help in sharing the following information about available student services and resources with your members and peers who may find it helpful.
Please pass along the details below to your organization. Thank you for helping us support students.
Academics
If you need an academic accommodation, please immediately consult your professor or graduate student instructor. If you need assistance, learn more about requests and visit the academic accommodations hub. You can also learn more about the accommodation of religious creed policy.
Campus resources
For our Jewish community members:
- Support for the UC Berkeley Jewish community
- UHS resources for the Jewish community
- CalLink – We have a wide variety of student RSOs dedicated to supporting diverse communities and identities. We encourage you to explore and find a group that resonates with you!
Dining
Berkeley Dining offers prepackaged Passover-certified meals at all dining locations upon request. While Café 3 is a Kosher-certified kitchen with allergen-friendly, vegan, and vegetarian options year-round, the Kosher station closes during Passover due to the additional certification and oversight required for the holiday. During this time, Passover-certified carryout meals are available upon request at all dining commons.
Passover events in and around campus
- Berkeley Hillel is a Jewish student center near the campus and offers a whole calendar of events for Passover, including plenty of options for your seders, as well as Kosher for Passover food all holiday-long. Reach out to Rabbi Rav Maya at mzinkow@berkeleyhillel.org if you have questions.
- Email local community-based Rohr Chabad Jewish Student Center at contact@jewishucb.com to receive more Passover information.
Meditation and reflection spaces are available year-round in many places on campus. Here is a non-exhaustive list of some spaces available for meditation or reflection on campus:
- Eshleman Hall Meditation Room, Basement Room 40 (open to all students)
- School of Optometry Prayer/Meditation Room (open to Optometry/Vision Science community)
- Haas School of Business Meditation & Prayer Room (open to Haas community)
We wish you a Chag Sameach and hope you and your members find these resources valuable and supportive as you celebrate Passover.
In community,
Stephen C. Sutton (he/him/his)
